Andy Beshear predicts Democrats flip Ohio and Iowa’s governor seats

Gov. Beshear is watching several “close races” for governor across the country this November.

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Just north of Kentucky, Ohio’s race for governor is becoming a very tight race.

New polling shows Democrat Amy Acton leading Republican Vivek Ramaswamy by a thin margin ahead of November’s midterm election.

While a Democrat in Ohio hasn’t held the seat since 2007, Gov. Andy Beshear says, “Amy Acton is gonna win.”

This story continues below.

“Vivek Ramaswamy has thrown about $30 million in negative ads against her and the race hasn’t changed,” he said Thursday.

Beshear, chair of the Democratic Governors Association, cited Acton’s experience as a doctor and public servant.

The governor added that she’s someone who can “actually relate to where some families are right now.”

“[Amy Acton] is a good person; she also knows what it’s like to struggle. She and her brother were homeless living in a tent in part of their youth being fed breakfast by a lady on her porch on the way to school,” Beshear said.

WHAS11’s request for comment to Ramaswamy’s campaign was not immediately returned.

Beshear expects major wins for Democratic gubernatorial candidates in November, with voters in 36 states electing governors this year.

He also expects Rob Stand to flip Iowa’s seat blue, and called Keisha Lance Bottoms in Georgia “very, very strong.”

Beshear says he is also watching “close races” in Alaska, Nebraska, Florida and Texas.

“The fact that the map for governor’s races is that big shows you how hard things are in America,” he said. “People are just looking for somebody who will stand up for them, regardless of the party of the president.”
