Where did the Democratic Party go, the one many of our parents voted for? According to a recent CBS News/YouGov poll, 58% of Democrats have a favorable view of socialism, and only 32% of Democrats view capitalism favorably.
An “Economist/YouGov survey recently found that 62 percent of Democrats said they would vote for a ‘Democratic Socialist’ candidate.” Many self-labeled socialists resent being called communists. Fair enough, not all socialism leads to communism. However, socialism is defined as the intermediate step in classical Marxist-Leninist theory.
With so many Democrats in favor of socialism, it’s easy to see how some members of the Democratic Socialists of America have already won primaries. Under the heading, “A Day Without Capitalism,” a paragraph on the DSA website reads: “You have no debt. You don’t need health insurance. You don’t pay a mortgage or have a landlord, because comfortable housing is a human right. Your retirement is publicly funded. Food, education, energy, medicine, and transportation aren’t for-profit businesses; they are common goods and utilities.” How to begin such an undertaking? DSA: “For the working class to govern, we need a new political system. … Abolish the Electoral College. Replace the President and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress.”
For the 32% of Democrats who still believe in the America their parents voted, and in many cases fought for, it is no shame to admit the party has left you.
