WASHINGTON (WKRC) — Residents in parts of Southeast Indiana devastated by historic storms and flooding this month will be eligible for federal disaster assistance.
President Donald Trump approved a major disaster declaration for Indiana, opening federal assistance to residents in several counties affected by the severe weather.
Locally, eligible counties include Dearborn, Fayette, Franklin and Union counties.
The storms brought torrential rainfall and severe flooding to Southeast Indiana, triggering emergency evacuations and damaging homes, businesses and vehicles.
Communities along the Whitewater River were among the hardest hit, with residents telling Local 12 they had never experienced flooding of that magnitude.
Federal assistance may include help with temporary housing, home repairs and other disaster-related recovery expenses.
Residents seeking assistance are encouraged to contact their insurance company first before applying for FEMA aid.
Applications can be submitted through DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling FEMA at 1-800-621-3362.
