Whiteside County Democrats collected items for April House Children’s Advocacy Center at their October meeting after becoming aware of the organization’s wish list through a newsletter. Several members contributed a variety of both fun and practical things. The Democrats also contributed $1,000 to help with operating expenses.

On Monday, October 27th, representatives of the Whiteside County Democrats dropped off the items and received a tour of the facility. Carrie Melton, Lisa Zacharski, and Diane Heath did a fabulous job of explaining the work they do for area families.

Vincent Vaughn commented, “April House is an organization that protects our most vulnerable community members – our youth. I hope to continue to advocate for organizations like this and learn how we, the community, can better assist the families impacted. Over 1,000 children in and around Whiteside County have been assisted by April House and it is imperative we advocate for a better, more positive change for our children!”

Dr. Mark Woods added, “Whiteside County is blessed to have April House help its abused children. It’s such a good cause.” Jan Pels, who is a newer resident of Whiteside County, was impressed by the professionalism of the team who operate the facility.

Along with the Democrats, Paula Schares spearheaded a drive for April House with the Morrison Line Dancers and Morrison Pinochle Club, two groups in which she is involved. “I was overwhelmed by the generosity shown by people in the community. It’s important that we support organizations that are helping families,” Schares stated.
