WASHINGTON — New disclosures show President Donald Trump made more than 1,000 stock trades in June. That includes buying and selling stocks of energy companies and defense contractors affected by the Iran war.
The 34-page ethics filing lists each and every trade the president made in June, some of which involved more than $1 million in stock. Others are on the smaller side with a trade value of less than $5,000.
The president bought and sold a huge number of companies from Apple and Amazon to Microsoft and McDonald’s.
The portfolio includes investments in energy companies like Exxon and Chevron and defense contractors like Lockheed Martin.
Critics have raised ethics concerns about these trades since these companies were directly affected by the war with Iran.
Ethics watchdogs are also raising alarm over trades in other companies affected by the president’s and his administration’s policies, including drug manufacturers like Eli Lilly, the AI computer chip behemoth Nvidia and the social media platform Meta.
The White House has repeatedly denied that the president has any influence over the trades, saying Trump’s portfolio is independently managed by a third party.
“Neither President Trump nor any member of his family has any ability to direct, influence, or provide input regarding how the portfolio is invested,” the White House said in a statement. “There are no conflicts of interest.”
But the president has faced criticism for not divesting or placing his assets in a blind trust as previous presidents have done.
Democrats on the Joint Economic Committee released a new report this week criticizing the president for trading oil and gas stocks and claiming it added to his wealth by over $15 million this year.
“As Trump boosts his own stock portfolio and drives up profits for Big Oil, families have paid the price at the pump,” the Democrats said.
Earlier disclosures have shown the president has profited at unprecedented levels in his second term, including a windfall of over $1 billion from his various cryptocurrency businesses.
