Residents can meet Democratic candidates and help buy books for Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School’s library at an October 5 forum in downtown Buckhannon.
Upshur County Democratic Women will host Cookies and Candidates from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Volume Bookshop & Studio, 7 E. Main St. The group said the school library sustained water damage during recent storms.
The fundraiser will let attendees vote for their favorite candidate cookie recipe by placing donations in voting jars. All money collected through that voting will go toward books for the library. Candidates will contribute their favorite recipes, and refreshments will include cookies, water and coffee.
Organizers expect U.S. Senate candidate Rachel Fetty Anderson, West Virginia House of Delegates District 65 candidate Mira Tanner-Hughes and West Virginia Senate District 11 candidate Kevin Carpenter to attend.
U.S. House District 2 candidate Ace Parsi has another engagement and plans to provide a statement instead.
Attendees may turn in questions when the evening begins. Moderators will select questions for the candidates, who will also give brief introductions to their platforms. Informal conversations with candidates will follow the speaking portion.
“The Upshur County Democratic Women are thrilled that we can host a forum to provide an opportunity for local citizens to learn more about Democratic general election candidates and speak to those candidates about any concerns they may have,” said Upshur County Democratic Women President Holly Tunning Canfield.
