House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said Congress would have to “make the numbers work” on President Trump’s proposal to give adult Americans a $5,000 “dividend” if Republicans retain control of the House and Senate. Asked by CBS News’ Ed O’Keefe whether promising voters $5,000 amounted to a “bribe,” Scalise (R-LA) said, “No, it’s a reality to say Democrats are against this.” President Trump announced the plan Wednesday night but did not detail how it would be funded.
