With Election Day five weeks away, Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds held a town hall in Kissimmee, where he said only U.S. and Florida laws would be enforced under his administration and rejected any implementation of Sharia law. Also, taking a look at the conversation around property taxes — even though voters will decide on property tax reform this November, a new poll suggests insurance is the bigger issue on homeowners’ minds.
On to our top story, we’re just five weeks out from Election Day, and as a result, the campaigns are kicking into full gear as the candidates prepare to sprint toward the finish line. Today, Republican candidate for Governor Byron Donalds was in Central Florida holding a town hall in Kissimmee.
While he was there, he was asked several times about Muslims in the United States and what they say is the threat that Sharia Law would somehow be implemented.
While Donalds stood firm that only the laws of the United States and the state of Florida would be the only ones enforced under his administration, he did pivot to point out what he says are the differences between him and Democratic candidate David Jolly. Here’s what Donald’s had to say…
Even though voters will decide on property tax reform this November, it is insurance that a new poll says is the bigger issue on their minds.
The University of North Florida’s Public Opinion Research Lab conducted the survey with the Orlando Sentinel and the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
It found that 63% of Florida homeowners are more concerned with property insurance than property taxes.
Just 36% said the opposite.
That focus remained true regardless of political affiliation.
70% of Democrats, 62% of NPA voters, and 57% of Republicans said they were more concerned about insurance.
Associate Director of Political Science Sean Freeder said in a statement, quote:
“Even in a rhetorical environment that would otherwise prime Floridians to think heavily about property tax, nearly two in three still said property insurance was the greater concern.”
