Voting against a budget doesn’t mean you can’t support the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Project

Can a lawmaker vote against a budget and still support a project funded by that budget?

Of course.

Budgets contain thousands of provisions, and lawmakers routinely support some items while opposing the overall package.

That’s why claiming someone is a hypocrite for supporting the Mobile bridge after voting against a larger spending bill ignores how Congress actually works.

If that standard were applied consistently, politicians from both parties would be accused of opposing projects they later celebrate.

The debate over the Mobile bridge is worth having.

The argument about one budget vote isn’t.
